Don't Get Duped: Identifying Phony Universities in Every State (India)

 


The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a list of fake universities in India. UGC has written to the state government departments of higher education/ principal secretaries and states to take appropriate action against the fake institutions. "I'd like to let you know that your institution is included in the list of phony universities because it is not a "University" in the sense of Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, but rather a business that awards fake degrees to unsuspecting students or uses the word "university" in its name to deceive and defraud them. In a formal letter addressed to the vice chancellors of these institutions, UGC secretary Manish Joshi stated, "It has become a matter of concern as many students are becoming victims of the fraudulent act of your institution."
