Ontario Has Announced New Policies Regarding Foreign Students:
In an effort to enhance international student protection and raise the standard of postsecondary education in Ontario, the province has announced new initiatives.
All educational institutions in Ontario, the most populous province in Canada and the location of half of the nation's overseas students, will be required to make sure that housing is available for incoming cohorts.
The move was prompted by Immigration Minister Marc Miller's decision to ban foreign enrollment last week in an attempt to allay public outcry about an increase in temporary migrants' driving up of housing and rent costs.
To protect the standard of postsecondary education and promote employment in essential industries, such as skilled trades and healthcare, the government will implement the following measures:
Regarding Colleges and Universities
Make sure the quality of the programs maintains Ontario's position as a global leader in education and meets the demands of the labour market by conducting an assessment of the offerings of postsecondary educational institutions that enroll a significant number of international students.
In order for graduates to succeed after finishing their education, make sure the curricula offered align with what businesses are seeking for.
Put a stop to the formation of new public-private partnerships with educational institutions while steps are taken to enhance oversight protocols and ensure the quality of existing relationships.
Boost the number of students responding to student outcome surveys in order to guarantee that the best possible academic outcomes are being achieved.
Make it necessary for all colleges and universities to guarantee that incoming international students will have options for housing.

While it takes the required safety steps for students, the provincial administration will collaborate with the federal government to safeguard the stability of post-secondary education in the province and nation.
Higher education establishments have a significant impact on employment creation, skill enhancement, research, innovation, and commercialization. They have so made a substantial contribution to Ontario's economic growth.
For every $1 invested in postsecondary education in the province, an estimated $1.36 in positive economic return on investment is generated.
Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities, stated that "immediate attention and collaborative action are required to address the challenges stemming from the recent spike in students coming to Canada, including predatory practices by bad-actor recruiters, misinformation regarding citizenship and permanent residency, false promises of guaranteed employment, and inadequate housing for students."
"At the same time, in order to place even more people in fulfilling professions in the health care and skilled trades, we need to fortify the connections between Ontario's labor market demands and the programs being provided to students."
