A New List for 2023
The Globe and Mail has released a new list of the 100 most
livable cities in Canada for 2023, and Victoria, British Columbia, is at number
one
Data from 439 Canadian cities with a population of at least
10,000 were examined.
The economy, housing, population, health care, safety,
education, community, amenities, transportation, and climate are the factors
that go into these rankings.
Based on each city's ranking position, the data was rescaled
for each variable, yielding scores ranging from 0 to 1.
With a score of 0.998, Vancouver was ranked as the second
most walkable community, while Thunder Bay came in at number 186 with a score
of 0.578.
Some factors, like housing and the economy, were given more
weight than others because they are more significant to people when they are
choosing where to live. These factors included things like climate and
amenities, which are relatively less significant.
The same methodology was applied to the factors within each
category; for instance, the proximity of grocery stores was found to have a
greater impact on the average person's quality of life than the proximity of
libraries.
Canada's Top 20 Most Liveable Cities
British Columbia boasts six of Canada's ten most livable
cities.
Numbers three, four, and five are Burlington in Ontario,
Regina in Saskatchewan, and Winnipeg in Manitoba.
