Expectations for the Key Express Entry Draw in 2024
Expectations for the Key Express Entry Draw in 2024
Expectations for the Express Entry Draw in 2024: Through the Express Entry program, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) hopes to admit 110,770 new permanent residents of Canada by the year 2024.
In addition, Canada has set a target range for new permanent residents via Express Entry for the year 2024: 110,770 is the optimum number, with a lower range of 90,000 and a higher range of 116,000.
The first Express Entry draw for 2024 has not yet been announced by IRCC, but it might happen in the next several days.
We have set expectations for this year's subsequent invitation rounds in the interim.
For the purpose of helping our readers understand our estimates and make appropriate plans, this article explores the analysis and expected outcome of draws.
A Brief Retrospective of the 2023 Express Entry Drawings
Since 2023 was the first year when category-based rounds of invites were introduced, it is crucial that we look back and understand the larger picture of the drawings that were held in 2023 as we approach 2024.
The phrase "no program specified" draw has now been replaced by "general" draws by the IRCC. Therefore, general draws now indicate that all profiles produced using the Express Entry system are being taken into account.
Through 42 rounds of invitations, Canada extended invitations to 110,266 primary applicants to apply for permanent residency (PR) in 2023.
On June 28, 2023, the IRCC launched category-based or targeted draws. In 27 rounds of invitations, 51,218 people were invited.
The new standard for non-targeted or general Express Entry drawings is the 510 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
Finding the IRCC's mercy to hold frequent, sizable general rounds of invites is highly unlikely, even with a 510 CRS score.
An invitation to apply for the next general Express Entry drawings will be extended to applicants with a CRS score of at least 520, starting with those who scored at least 530 in the first invitation rounds.
The chance is in the Trade, Agriculture & Agri-Food, and Transport rounds of invites with low CRS cutoff scores for category-based or targeted Express Entry drawings.
With a CRS cutoff score that is anticipated to stay comparatively higher in the STEM category, the healthcare category is predicted to finish in second place.
In the 2024 Express Entry drawings, we anticipate that the trade category will win, followed by French proficiency.
The lower CRS cutoff, better possibilities of receiving provincial nominations, and potential rise in invitations in 2024 are the reasons these two categories are our best bets.
Additionally, given their increased likelihood of gaining provincial nominations and raising CRS scores, the STEM and healthcare categories with relatively higher CRS cutoff scores are also wise investments.

We still urge eligible candidates for either of the Express Entry programs to set up their profiles as soon as they meet the requirements, and then focus on becoming eligible for either Category-Based Selections or Provincial Nominee Programs.

If you already have a valid profile in the Express Entry pool and your spouse has at least six months of experience in one of the 82 eligible occupations for targeted draws, then even if your overall CRS score drops to about 450–490, your spouse becomes your primary applicant for Express Entry if you are one of the primary applicants with a CRS score of less than 510–500.
We anticipate that the trade and French-proficiency categories will remain in place for the next five years, although the Canadian Immigration Department may alter the categories in 2024.
