According to a report by the international education firm Oxford International Education Services, the main reasons Indian students choose to pursue higher education overseas are the temptation of improved employment chances, more in-depth cultural immersions, and learning new languages.
Better employment chances were mentioned by nearly 50% of Indian students polled as the main reason they wanted to study overseas, followed by cultural immersion (42%), language skill improvement (41%), and other factors.
According to Oxford International's Student Global Mobility Index (SGMI), over 50% of Indian students cited "cost of living" and 35% cited "high tuition fees" as the main deterrents to pursuing higher education abroad.
The Knowledge Partnership, a company that specializes in global student research, and Oxford International collaborated to conduct the SGMI survey, which included a sample size of more than 500 present and potential students in important markets like Vietnam, Nigeria, Pakistan, India, and Pakistan.
Since the pandemic, more Indian students have been pursuing studies overseas, unfazed by the macroeconomic unpredictability in the US and Europe and the growing number of job losses in certain regions.
Some of the elements driving demand are an increase in the number of funding choices, an increase in the availability of help and scholarships, and the growing importance of social media platforms.
Mohit Gambir, managing director of Oxford International Education Services, stated that "the results from our study this year provides a fresh perspective about the evolving needs, preferences, and challenges of the Indian students that will play a significant role in reshaping the education landscape."
Additionally, the survey revealed that 42% of Indian students thought that majoring in a certain field would improve their chances of finding employment after graduation.
