Indians enrolled at prestigious universities | "Lifelong learning is experienced at Oxford University"

Ivy League universities were first introduced to me, like most Indian students, via the internet and motion pictures. Since learning about them in Class 10, I have desired to attend one of these colleges.

I began my MPhil in Economics program at Oxford University in September 2023.

I compiled a list of universities I wanted to apply to when I first started my MPhil application process. I ultimately limited my application to UK universities (LSE, UCL, and Oxford) out of those that were located in the US, Europe, and Asia.
Oxford's course structure and flexibility to tailor the curriculum to my interests were key factors in my decision to enroll there.

Admissions procedure
Visiting the official websites of colleges is, in my opinion, the most efficient and possibly the best approach to do research on them as they offer the most current and correct information. In addition, I've found that it's really beneficial to get in touch with the students who are enrolled in these programs.
October is when most admissions processes start. If one intends to apply, they should always begin their research early in the year to ensure they don't pass on any opportunities.

If there is a deadline, it is best to apply at least two weeks in advance of that day. A two-week buffer period guarantees that one has adequate time to correct any errors in case something goes wrong right at the last minute.

Regarding the procedure, a person should identify the field in which they are interested and proceed by visiting the course website. Reaching out to folks is possible once you have your top 10 or top 20. In my experience, folks are typically eager to talk and help you out.

While relatively comparable to other international colleges, the admissions process differs significantly from that of Indian universities. Before applying, one must take the GRE and IELTS tests. Furthermore, I included a statement of purpose that outlined my career goals and areas of interest in the profession.

In addition, I sent in my resume and the writing sample from my research that Oxford required. In addition, recommendation letters from my undergraduate instructors at the University of Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) were requested.
Beyond scholarly work
One of the best ways to see how your topic of study is used in the real world is to be willing to venture beyond the classroom. A study project, internship, or experience that broadened your horizons is always beneficial.

My chances were aided by the internships I completed, which focused on the topic of development economics and the effects of economic policy on numerous businesses and fields.

Extracurricular pursuits that let you delve further into your subject outside of the classroom are also beneficial.

Oxford: The way of life

My first few days at Oxford were difficult because I was not only in a foreign place but also had to learn how to do things that I had never done before.Looking back, I laughed when I went cleaning supply shopping and was amazed at the amount of products available for cleaning your home. Purchasing hand wash, dishwasher, and detergent are items that one never considers when they are a child living with their parents. It is a startling and unsettling moment in equal measure.

Fortunately, I think Oxford has one of the best student cultures around. The ease with which one may approach and strike up a conversation with anyone, whether they be a fellow student, an individual from a different course, or even one's instructors, continues to astound me. I'm grateful for how supportive everyone is when you ask questions and voice your doubts.
Another thing I love to do is go to formal dinners at other institutions. You are seated next to a stranger at these dinners, where you can not only meet acquaintances but also discover more about various nations and cultures.

I've had the chance to speak with people working in the development area, a PhD candidate studying cancer, an individual trying to find a way to mainstream Ayurvedic remedies, and a late-fifties PhD student studying computer sciences.
I have had the opportunity to meet with individuals from all over the world over the past two months, and by getting to know other cultures and opinions, I have been able to broaden my perspective and be open to different points of view.

I now understand what it means when people say there is no end to learning because of my experiences meeting people at Oxford who have a variety of backgrounds in terms of education, work experience, and even life in general.

Knowing that there is always more to learn has inspired me to go above and beyond the classroom to put things into perspective.
