Mumbai's animal hospital, Ratan Tata's favorite project, is scheduled to open in a month:
Ratan Tata focused on his pet project, an animal hospital in Mumbai, after stepping down as chairman of Tata Sons. With the establishment of the Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital in Mahalaxmi, his ambition of creating a top-notch animal hospital in India is about to come true.
The Times of India reports that the hospital's grand opening is scheduled for the first week of March.
Famous animal lover Ratan Tata discussed his ideal project and the reasons behind his desire for a Mumbai facility for tiny animals in an interview with Times of India.
"A pet and a family member are the same in today's world. I understand the need for this facility having raised multiple pets throughout my life," the 86-year-old remarked.

Tata was the first to recognize the necessity for a top-notch veterinary hospital. He remembered the time he had to fly a companion animal to the University of Minnesota so it could have a joint replacement. However, I arrived too late, and as a result, they frozen the dog's joint in a specific posture. I was able to observe the capabilities of a top-notch veterinary hospital thanks to that experience," he stated.
The five-story Tata Trusts Small Animal Hospital was constructed at a whopping Rs 165 crore. It can accommodate up to 200 patients. Thomas Heathcote, a British veterinarian who moved to Mumbai for the hospital, will serve as the team's leader.
The hospital was originally planned to be constructed in Navi Mumbai when the project was first announced in 2017. Ratan Tata chose to relocate it to a more central location because he believed that pet parents would be discouraged by the lengthy drive.
This distance could have been a big turnoff for pet parents, particularly for those who needed emergency care. In light of this, the businessman and philanthropist clarified that another reason for the delay was locating suitable site and obtaining permits. The Covid epidemic caused additional delays to the development.

After that, we had to realign the agreements, paperwork, and documentation, which took us roughly a year and a half. When we got back to business as usual, the hospital's expenses had also been affected by the rising cost of labor, steel, and raw materials, according to Tata.
