IIT placement woes: Top schools have more unplaced students, alumni association reports:
Dheeraj Singh, an IIT Kanpur alumnus and the founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group, revealed data based on an RTI filed by him, revealing that placements may not be an easy and profitable process this year.
According to Singh, the IITs may see a bigger number of unplaced students than in past years. He computed the numbers from the RTI data he received.
According to Singh's figures, 712 of the 1,976 students who registered for placement possibilities this year have yet to be placed. His projection indicates that around 35.6% of students may not be placed this year.
Comparing these numbers to the previous year's placement data reveals that around 33.4% of students were unable to obtain jobs during the placement season last year.

A similar placement scenario has been expected for IIT Madras, with around 45.2% of registered students remaining unplaced this year. Of the 2,100 students who registered for placement services, 950 did not obtain employment offers. In 2023, around 31.9% of the 2,323 registered students at IIT Madras remained unplaced.
Singh has raised concern over the expected percentage of unplaced students at IITs. He has underlined the necessity for the institutes to help unplaced students find employment.
