New Canadian Study Permit Allocations and Approvals 2024

New Canadian Study Permit Allocations and Approvals 2024:

Marc Miller, Canada's immigration minister, issued an official statement stating that they plan to approve 235,600 new study visas in 2024.

Furthermore, the maximum for new study permit applications (excluding elementary and secondary school students and master's or doctoral degree students) is set at 392,667, assuming a 60% approval rate.

The ministry also released a thorough province-by-province attestation letter and study permit approval allotment for 2024 (which are listed further in this article).

Overall, Canada expects to award 485,000 study permits by 2024. This includes around 97,000 study permit extensions from within Canada.

In total, the immigration service anticipates receiving 606,000 study permit (including extensions and other variants) applications by 2024.

As a result, the total number of study permit applications for all study permit kinds, including elementary and secondary school pupils and master's or doctoral degree students, is capped at 606,000.

Approximately 392,667 are set aside for new study permit applications, eliminating basic and secondary school pupils as well as master's or doctoral degree students.

When Marc Miller announced the new cap in January, the official IRCC news release made it clear that people seeking master's and doctoral degrees, as well as elementary and secondary education, were exempt from the cap.

However, it appears that the IRCC has recently imposed a cap on all study permit application categories.

Canada Investigates Permit Capping Model 2024.
According to the minister's statement, the national cap on overseas students is predicated on net zero growth, which means it equals the number of study permits that will expire this year.

This means that the number of overseas students entering Canada in 2024 should be the same as the number of students whose permits expire this year.

The goal for 2024 is to have 485,000 authorized study permits.

The IRCC allocated a modified number of study permit applications, 393,000, based on the population share of each province and territory.

This scenario predicts that some provinces and territories will have more students in 2024 than in 2023, while others will have fewer new students.

IRCC adjusted the allocation for provinces that would receive more international students in 2024 than in 2023 based on population share, restricting increase to 10% above 2023 levels.

For provinces that projected get fewer international students in 2024 than in 2023, the IRCC adjusted its allocation to reduce the negative impact in the first year while also supporting larger regional immigration goals.

IRCC also boosted allocations for provinces with approval rates of less than 60%. The top-ups will help provinces with lower approval rates attain their goal number of permitted study permits by 2024.

As a result, about 552,000 study permit applications have been sent to provinces and territories within the national limit.

These allocations are expected to result in around 292,000 approved study permits, representing a 28% decrease from 2023 for the groups covered by the cap.

How many study permit allocations have been set for Ontario in 2024?
Ontario has been assigned a total of 235,000 research permit applications in 2024, with a 60% acceptance rate resulting in an anticipated 141,000 study permits.

This eliminates basic and secondary school pupils, as well as study permits for master's or doctoral degrees.

What is the IRCC's processing time for study permits?
According to the most current IRCC processing update, study permit applications from outside of Canada take an average of 11 weeks, those from within Canada take 10 weeks, and study permit extensions take 77 days.
